Heartfelt thanks to care home workers

The four staff given awards at Dolywern were Justine Brady (Outstanding care team member), Pam Gratrick (outstanding member of clinical team), Meinir Austin (outstanding member of ancilliary team) and Siân Jones (outstanding team member for service). Plaid Cymru's North Wales MS has joined with a disability charity to celebrate their care heroes who have gone above and beyond - paying a heartfelt and very personal tribute to the work they've done during the pandemic.

Leading disability charity Leonard Cheshire has been celebrating their care staff across Wales this month in a series of award ceremonies.

The charity wanted to recognise the efforts of their care services and staff during the pandemic and celebrate their dedication to supporting disabled people.

Staff celebration events have taken place across Wales, including Wrexham, Anglesey, Carmarthen and Swansea thus far. The events were dedicated to staff, and included an awards ceremony, live entertainment, flowers, trophies and catering.

Dolywern in the Ceiriog Valley celebrated their staff with a live magician and awards were presented by Plaid Cymru's North Wales regional MS for North Wales, Llyr Gruffydd MS. He said:

"It was a genuine privilege to be able to attend the awards ceremony and to thank all the staff for the incredible work done throughout this very difficult past couple of years. We have all become more aware of the sacrifices and ongoing efforts being made by all the staff in the care home sector. We owe them a great debt as a society.

"As those who were present know, my family also has a specific and very personal thanks to make to the Leonard Cheshire home in Dolywern for the way they cared for a relative of ours in recent years. It was quite an emotional return to the home because he is no longer with us and it just serves to underline how appreciated the work done at the service is.”
